Some tips for you if you are interested in painting a whiteboard/blackboard for your homes…
Here are a few things to be aware of:
1. Magnet primers are “Black” – if you are planning to have a whiteboard on top of the magnet primer, make sure you get a good whiteboard paint that can cover up the dark color! Our first whiteboard paint was cheaper but required 3 layers to get the dry-erase effect, but to cover the black color of the primer, it didn’t work out so well. Also, if the paint is too thick, it’ll reduce the strength of the magnet! Overall, it’s much easier to have a blackboard paint on magnet primer because it’s black on black 🙂
This is the magnet primer we used for our little projects.
2. Before you use your magnet primer, flip over the can for a little while because the magnet paint is heavy and sitting on the bottom of the can.
3. We later try this IdeaPaint to finish our whiteboard, and it’s worth every penny! It only requires one layer for the dry erase to be effective, and it’s thick and strong enough to cover our magnet primer. Very impressive!
4. It’s pretty straight forward to paint blackboard, but make sure you stir the paint evenly before getting started, or it will become a bumpy ride lol
